Margeson Wins
- Hoffses Amazing!
Port Angeles, WA - August 23
The main event started right off with Logan Forler grabbing the lead
from his pole position starting spot, Evan Margeson slid into second
and Troy Globe remained third on the outside, followed by Seidelman,
Hoffses, Atkinson and Smutny. Hoffses got by Seidelman, who slowed and
pitted with what is hoped to be nothing more serious than a broken valve
spring. Hoffses got by Globe, and seconds later Margeson went by Forler
for the lead going into turn three. The running order now was Margeson,
Forler, Hoffses, Atkinson, Globe, and Smutny. Both Hoffses and Atkinson
moved up to the rear bumper of a smooth running Forler in the black
22 car, and there they remained for many laps, looking both inside and
outside, but unable to make the pass. Hoffses, in the middle of the
fast running trio was concentrating in trying to make a pass, and protecting
his position from a hard charging Atkinson. This battle raged for most
of the race. As this was occurring, Margeson was pulling away from the
rest of the field, and had a thirty car length lead when Hoffses finally
got the edge going into turn one and passed Forler, but this put Atkinson
right on Forlers rear bumper, and the battle continued to rage. At the
drop of the checker Margeson was coming up on the rear bumper of Smutny,
but could not put that driver a lap down. Complete finish below.
Time trials on the small, bumpy, and tricky oval saw an amazing attempt
by Hoffses as he set fast time and a new track record! Skeeter Flake
in the Muth Nissan won the trophy dash over Margeson, Atkinson and Hoffses.
The large appreciative crowd gave the midgets a great round of applause
at the close of their portion of the program late in the evening.
The first heat saw Logan come home the winner, followed by Margeson,
Smutny, a spinning Globe, and Dan Fisher flipping the 45 car going into
turn one early in the race, and finishing last. Neither Fisher nor the
car suffered any real damage and before the fast heat he was out on
the track for a few trial laps to assure the car was OK.
The fast heat was won by Hoffses, following were Margeson, Atkinson
and Flake who was
running with an obviously sour motor. ,_
